A scout is Helpful.  A major component of scouting is service work.  Scouts are required to do a certain amount of hours of service work for advancement, but are also encouraged to do it not just for their advancements, but for the community at large.  Scouting provides ample opportunities for service work.  

A few scouts (and leaders) manned a water station for the Cranberry Community Days 5k run today.  The runners all appreciated the service!
